Holz-Handwerk 2014: 2-component adhesive specialists for highest demands: EPI system for exterior applications and 2K SE polymer for bonding compact panels.

Detmold.- Water resistance in exterior applications, and a strong hold of substrates too small for dowels: The challenging demands on bonding of treated wooden products respectively of high-density panel substrates are predestined for high performance 2-component systems.

Jowat AG is attending the Holz-Handwerk in Nuremberg with a comprehensive range of products for the small and medium-sized wood industry. In this trade show presentation, the focus is on two 2-component adhesives which have been tried and tested successfully in new and extremely challenging areas of application:

Two-component - dispersion and crosslinker - system from the  Jowacoll® EPI product family now also allows bonding of acetylated wooden materials for exterior application, e.g. Tricoya®, as well as other difficult to bond modified wood-based products. This adhesive has properties known so far only from the PUR adhesives, but can be processed as easily as a dispersion. Even with wood-species that normally cannot be bonded with PUR adhesives, it is possible to produce compounds with extremely high resistances to moisture and heat.

Two-component Jowat® SE-Polymer, an adhesive system which bonds effectively when mechanical fastening is too expensive or when the bonding surfaces are too limited, for instance on the bevel edges of high-density panels. Both, the small available surface area and the high-density of this panel material, are extremely challenging requirements. The outstanding bonding properties of this silane-epoxy-based adhesive have been demonstrated many times when bonding metals, plastics, glass and concrete.

Beyond the actual development of new adhesives, Jowat improved the handling feature of the pullring can. This packaging unit for PUR hot melt in granulate shape is the preferred supply form mainly for small enterprises. Starting immediately, the cans are now equipped with an additional plastic snap-on lid, which prevents contamination of the granulate with sawdust, woodchips etc. In addition, the PUR granulate can be used for a period of up to four days after removal of the original pullring lid – depending on the ambient conditions (e.g. humidity and  temperature).
