The Region

In 1919 the company founder Johannes Watzlawczik established a wholesale business in Breslau and in early 1946 the “Jowat Lobers und Frank KG, Chemische und Leimfabrik” (English: Jowat Lobers and Frank KG, Chemical and Glue Factory) was founded in Detmold.
Since then the Jowat site in Demtold is continuously progressing. The transformation from a glue factory to a modern industrial adhesive plant was initiated by ground-breaking developments in polymer chemistry and the availability of synthetically produced polymer resin dispersions in the 1950s and 1960s.

In 1968 Jowat established itself as a leading provider of powerful hot melt adhesives with the first trademark registration for hot melts. Production facilities were continuously expanded in Detmold and soon two new building compounds followed: the House of Bonding in 2001 providing additional offices and laboratories and the House of Logistics in 2010 serving as storage and distribution centre. The new built House of Technology, a centre for application technology strengthen the significance of the location in Detmold of the globally active family enterprise.

Detmold, the capital city of the historical Principality of Lippe, is an idyllic small town with high living standard, a population of approx. 73,000, and represents the centre of the Lippe region. The close proximity to other cities in Eastern-Westphalia like Bielefeld, Paderborn, Gütersloh or Herford provides a large variety of cultural and leisure activities in the midst of a beautiful natural landscape and well-forested low mountain regions surrounded by the Teutoburger Forest and the Egge Hills. The flyer “About us in Lippe – Living and working in Lippe!” published by the FORUM LIP.PE offers additional interesting information about this region.
An enterprise with a sense for tradition, Jowat SE is highly committed in the Detmold region and Eastern-Westphalia-Lippe. Engagements in the top cluster “it’s OWL” and the campaign “Industry – Future in Lippe” promoting the region are just two examples.
174 companies, organisations, colleges and research centres from the region are collaborating in the technology network entitled “it’s OWL – Intelligent Technical Systems OstWestfalenLippe” (www.its-owl.com). The focus is on development and marketing of new technologies commonly called Industry 4.0.
The campaign “Industry – Future in Lippe” (www.industrie-lippe) has a focus on the performance and the image of the economy characterised by mostly medium-sized enterprises in the Lippe region.
