On the enterprise’s 100th anniversary, the adhesives specialist from Detmold is presenting itself with the statement “Our word is our bond. Since 1919.” Jowat underscores its commitment to high product quality and comprehensive services with a wide range of new, powerful adhesives from all fields of application.

The cornerstone of the Detmold-based enterprise’s success was laid in the Silesian metropolis of Breslau back in 1919. There, Johannes Watzlawczik, founder and namesake of what is now Jowat SE, with entrepreneurial courage and a strong customer focus, set in motion what would prove to be continual company growth. The wide range of applications of the Jowat products that already existed at that time did a great job of meeting the industry’s diverse requirements and led to the company’s rapid success. Today, with a workforce of over 1,200 employees worldwide, Jowat SE produces more than 90,000 tonnes of adhesives per year and ensures customer-focused distribution of those products via its 23 subsidiaries and a close-knit global network of distributors. The adhesives manufacturer’s extensive portfolio includes high-performance adhesives used in woodworking and furniture manufacture, in the automotive industry and its suppliers, in the paper processing industry, for graphic arts, for textile finishing and in the construction sector.

In 2019, the year of its anniversary, Jowat is presenting both tried-and-tested as well as new product highlights from all fields of application. The PUR hot melt adhesives belonging to the continually growing Jowatherm-Reaktant® MR product family play an important part in this. These adhesives have a reduced monomer content and are therefore not subject to hazard labelling under GHS, and are used in a wide range of applications, for instance in the wood and furniture industry due to newly developed adhesives for edgebanding and laminating wood-based boards and sandwich elements. The product range also provides high-performance adhesives with hazard-free labelling for all common 3D laminating operations in the automotive industry.

The current PUR product portfolio provides consistent proof of Jowat’s technological competence and innovative capacity. With their PUR hot melts, the adhesive specialist from Detmold promises potential for significant process and efficiency advantages in the production of mattresses and upholstered furniture. In addition, Jowat has launched a product family of fully certified 1-component PUR prepolymers for the manufacture of load-bearing glulam, which are part of the Jowapur® range and provide an optimised assembly time-pressing time ratio for industrial production processes with rapid cycle times and throughput speeds.

In the packaging industry, Jowat’s brand new adhesives in the Jowatherm® GROW series mark an important milestone in the development of bio-based hot melts for the environmentally friendly bonding of packaging, thereby highlighting its commitment to sustainable adhesive solutions. Jowatherm® GROW stands for hot melt adhesives with a very high proportion of renewable raw materials, which are sure to impress during the manufacturing process due to to their high level of efficiency and cleanliness, and which facilitate recyclable bonds according to the German packaging law (Verpackungsgesetz).

The adhesive manufacturer from Detmold has consistently and convincingly positioned itself as an industry leader over the past 100 years thanks to its high-quality products, strong innovative capacity, a wide-ranging product portfolio, customer focus and comprehensive service covering all aspects of adhesive bonding. Jowat will continue to make its mark as a creative and innovative supplier of adhesives. And it will do all this in the pursuit of achieving worldwide perfection of its customers’ bonding processes, by working together with its customers.
