Jowat-Toptherm® for bonding carrier bags made of woven polypropylene

Detmold.- At this year‘s FachPack in Nuremberg, Jowat AG is presenting innovative adhesives for flexible packaging materials. The new polyolefin-based (PO) hot melt adhesive from the product family of Jowat-Toptherm® allows to manufacture carrier bags of woven polypropylene, with high cost-efficiency and outstanding strength.

New engineering technologies have been developed for processing thin and highly load-resistant PP wovens, and bonding of the polypropylene carrier bags is an attractive and cost saving alternative when compared to the conventional method of producing these bags by sewing.

Up to now, bonding the PP wovens required surface pretreatments. With the innovative Jowat-Toptherm® adhesive, however, the most diverse surface conditions can be bonded without this step - a clear advantage with regard to time and expenses of the production process. This is due to a combination of the excellent properties of Jowat-Toptherm®: superior wetting capacity, high initial strength and short open time. The result is a reliable neutralisation of the resilience forces which are exerted on the bond in the longitudinal seam area, the bottom, and the handle. The obsolete surface pretreatment together with the application advantages allow faster manufacturing processes with higher output.

The elasticity of the bondline is an additional benefit: Jowat-Toptherm® adapts to any movement without becoming brittle, while also withstanding thermal stress, moisture and a humid environment.
