17 is a crucial factor for the quality of the final product. Partially manual manufacturing, as we have found for instance in China, requires optimisation measures, to be precise: a higher green strength for the tried and proven adhesives of the Jowatherm-Reaktant® series. Immediately after bonding, the folding boxes are manually forwarded to downline processes and by comparison to a fully automatized production line, this exerts a much higher mechanical stress. Menzel: So you are saying that fast is always good? Sander: Not quite. Good is always what matches the desired quality of the end product and the other standards of the customer to the highest possible degree. Above all in the Asian markets, we are often faced with widely differing requirements. Many plants manufacture with semi-automatic methods since the factor payroll expenses is (not yet) a major cost consideration. But we also find operations that have the most modern, fully automatized high-performance lines. One example is here the beverage industry and specifically the straw attaching process on very small packages. In China, portion packs – to-go packages – find a huge market. These exacting demands are met by filling and packaging lines of highest efficiency. The adhesives used must therefore set very fast and be tailored for the production process – here, your question probably would be answered in the affirmative. Menzel: Let’s get back to the clear folding box. Slower manufacturing processes, a higher level of manual oper- ations – which does not mean that the demands on the quality of the final product need to be lower. Can you list some more adhesive properties required around the world for the bonding of clear folding boxes?
