20 posting opportunities. Is deployment common at Jowat? Günther: Yes, because an exchange of knowledge is always beneficial. Col- leagues are well connected and sup- port each other internationally as well. Deployment becomes necessary when modern communication techniques are insufficient to handle a task effectively. Editor: Does this mean that mainly employees from the German headquarter are deployed? Günther: For quite some time now, other locations also developed highly productive innovation and process skills that contribute a great deal to the global success of Jowat. It goes some time back that the site in Detmold al- most held a monopoly on innovations. Today, knowledge in the Jowat world is distributed in all directions around the globe, including back to Detmold. Editor: Therefore, deployment is a global topic. Günther: Yes, and it already works very well. For instance, we have an employee in the Malaysian manage- ment team. She is Brazilian, lived and was trained for one year in Germany, and then moved to Malaysia to take over managerial responsibilities. She will stay in Malaysia for two or three years, before she will relocate to one of our other sites in the USA or Germany. Editor: What are the difficulties for a globally engaged, medium-sized enterprise when it comes to deployment? Günther: Fulfilling the regulatory framework is, without doubt, chal- lenging. We have a conglomerate of social insurance, tax and labour laws. Meeting the requirements for one country alone can already be compli- cated. However, when this must be done for multiple countries and if we take into account that requirements are changing constantly and other international bodies, like the OECD, need to be consulted as well, it beco- mes very complicated. Therefore, we rely on experts to consult and help us. Editor: Mr Boberg, how is Jowat pre- paring the posting of a colleague? Boberg: Firstly, we must say that postings are very popular among Jo- wat employees. To make sure that it remains this way, we are preparing an attractive package for each interested employee. The task or the project is of course always the main aspect of a de- ployment. If the employee has the right qualifications for the job, the Human Resources department takes care of the formal conditions and en- sures a pleasant living environment in collaboration with the colleagues in the foreign country. Furthermore, the employees receive a private health insurance with full coverage, including a 24-hour hotline and an intercultural introduction. The arrival of the new col- leagues is announced very early and the hosting organisation is obligated to support the temporary colleague. However, deployment is quite often an adventure for many employees and us as well. Editor: What are the obstacles? In the interview from left Nils Günther and Matthias Boberg.
