Boberg: In spite of good preparation and extensive preliminary talks, oc- casionally surprising situations arise at the new home, due to the cultural differences. While some may take deficiencies in the household as an opportunity to discover the surroun- dings, others may experience it as a significant obstacle. Editor: Jowat employees are posted worldwide, to contribute their expertise to local projects. For how long do the employees stay abroad in average? Boberg: The deployment usually lasts from three to six months, in some oc- casions even longer. In a few instances, we also experienced that employees found a new home and de- cided not to come back at all. In such cases, the posting ends with a local contract of employment. Editor: From your perspective, would you say that posting makes the emplo- yer interesting? Boberg: The opportunity to work ab- road certainly increases our popularity as an employer. Many young appli- cants are very interested in it. Jowat has a lot to offer; in Germany, as well as internationally, and this at a high level of economic security. Editor: As a conclusion, how import- ant is international deployment? Günther: International deployment is a complex matter. It is not only essenti- al, but also desired by a globally active, medium-sized enterprise. The central focus is always on the contribution of know-how and experience. However, as they say, travel broadens the mind, and international deployment is helpful to eliminate prejudice and racism. It is not enough to raise the flag of our sub- sidiaries at the headquarters. Actively organising the international deployment process and preparing the path for a mutual understanding and successful cooperation are also part of a commitment abroad.
