13 Whether sedans, station wagons, SUVs or minivans – cars can fulfil different expec- tations and even the dreams of their own- ers. Trunks are as multi-functional as cars are diverse. In sedans, the shelf behind the rear seats makes a nice place for a nodding dog. In station wagons, the trunk cover has a more practical use, hiding the items in the trunk. And the loading area of a minivan may be used to transport bicy- cles, dogs or the entire family’s boots for a hiking trip. The individual parts of a trunk are not exposed only to the transported items but also to outside influences, for in- stance direct sunlight. Powerful adhesives play a major role in the manufacture of car interiors and especially of trunks. The individual applications with different shapes and materials to be lam- inated form a wide range of requirements. Surface geometry: trunk floor and cover Trunk floors and covers have one thing in common: both come in different surface geometries and are made of a variety of materials. Reactive PUR adhesives en- sure that the laminated parts later meet the high requirements, like heat resistance and compound strength. In general, trunk parts consist of a poly- urethane board with a honeycomb struc- Car trunks may have been designed for luggage but to- day they are used to transport everything that does not belong or fit in the passenger compartment. Depend- ing on the individual car and its owner, this can put a lot of wear and tear on the materials. Therefore, the in- terior of a trunk must be highly resistant and durable.
