During the manufacture of this type of covers, two different adhesive applications are required: profile wrap- ping for the box holding the retractable cover, and surface lamination for the handle. The aluminium or steel box is wrapped with a PVC foil using PUR hot melts. The de- mands on the adhesive are very high: excellent adhesion to the named materials and superior compound strength, to ensure a permanent resistance to high stress. The trunk cover consists of a single-layer, unlaminated foil with sewn edges. The handle is cut into a fibreboard, which is then laminated on both sides with a PVC foil. Since the thermal stress on the handle is particularly high (direct ex- posure to sunlight requires a heat resistance of 90 - 110 °C), PUR adhesives are the product of choice for this lami- nating application.
