The project in- volves the international network of experts “PalmwoodNet,” consisting of five core partner companies from Germany and Austria, project partners in Southeast Asia as well as the Uni- versität Hamburg and the University of Applied Sciences OWL (Hochschule OWL). “Oilpam-Wood” is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Eco- nomic Cooperation and Development, and aims at finding and implementing a sustainable use of oil palm logs. Due to the growing demand for palm oil, oil palm wood is available in vast quan- tities. At present, oil palms are still considered a waste product and are largely left to decay when plantations are rejuvenated.
