ZOW 2014: Leading adhesive technology for edgebanding

Introduction of a new reactive PUR hot melt as strong partner for serial industrial manufacturing processes, and a new PO-based adhesive for precoating of edgebands in smaller lots – these are the Jowat Highlights for the ZOW 2014.

Detmold, January 06, 2014. Jowat AG is attending the ZOW with two innovative and powerful adhesive systems for edgebanding. Both products are the top technological performers in their areas of application due to their formulations and processing parameters, ensuring higher efficiency in production for the manufacturer.

Reactive PUR hot melt adhesive

The products providing perfect bonds with unsurpassed quality results on all standard edgebanding and panel products are the reactive PUR hot melt adhesives. Jowat has succeeded by intensive R&D efforts to further optimize already well-established and market leading products. These new performance features allow the customer now to take advantage of characteristics that ensure additional process reliability, on top of the highly valued “good nature“ of their predecessors. The new adhesives of the Jowatherm-Reaktant® family are convincing due to their higher initial strength, which permits faster and safer downline finishing operations in production. Starting immediately, the new PUR adhesive Jowatherm-Reaktant® 607.60 is available in light beige colour, and in white as 607.61.

PO-based adhesive for precoating of edgeband enables laser activation

Traditional methods of edgebanding will still remain, but the trend towards activation by laser technology appears to be on the rise. Whether edgebands of plastics in small lots, veneer or even melamine edges – many edgebands on the market are currently not suitable for processing by laser methods, or cannot be purchased in lots that are economical. The new polyolefin-based precoating adhesive from the Jowat-Toptherm® series is available to the customer for the first time on the occasion of the ZOW. This product is formulated with special additives that convert the laser energy to heat, activating the underside of the edgeband for the bonding process. and results in a superfine, almost invisible but hard bondline with excellent final strength. Edgebanding by laser technology is a very complex process, and only tailored precoating adhesives provide the flexibility and efficiency – especially when the lot sizes are small.
