Jowat has launched a high-performance adhesion promoter for ABS edgebands: A newly developed solvent-based primer for high requirements in the manufacturing of edgebands, especially with regard to occupational safety and environmental protection. Jowat® 408.40 is a primer with a chlorine-free formulation, without any addition of toluene, Tetrahydrofuran (THF), N-methyl-pyrrolidone (NMP) and N-ethyl-pyrrolidone (NEP). Its applications are in the field of edgeband production. When processed correctly, the performance of Jowat® 408.40 on ABS substrates is considerably superior compared to standard PU primers. This is due to the solvents in the formulation that can detach PU polymers and also facilitate the gentle etching of the styrene in ABS materials.
Due to the substitution of toluene, THF, NMP and NEP, the primer is marked only with GHS02 & GHS07.
Therefore, the following H statements are not required for this primer:
■ H351: Suspected of causing cancer.
■ H360Df: May damage the unborn child. Suspected of damaging fertility.
Primers containing toluene, NEP, NMP and THF can still be sold in general. Jowat® 408.40, however, fully complies with the rule of substitution according to the legislation on hazardous substances and facilitates more environmentally and health-friendly Systems.
PrimerJowat® 408.40 is used for ABS edgebands. Application by gravure or smooth roller.
Jowat® 408.40 provides several further benefits for use on ABS edgebands:
- Improved, homogeneous application pattern as a basis for good permanent bond strengths.
- Free of chlorine – the primer therefore also complies with IKEA-IOS-MAT-0010, -0054 & 0066.
- If used correctly, improved performance on ABS, compared to standard, IKEA-IOS-MAT-conforming primers.
- Completely free of pyrrolidone: Excellently prepared for the future.
