High-Performance Adhesives for Building Filters

Detmold, January 17, 2023—Jowat supplies a comprehensive range of high-performance adhesives for the air filter industry. At this year’s FILTECH, the adhesive manufacturer from Detmold will be focusing on building filters and all related aspects.

Demand for building filters has been growing, not only from industry but also from private households, supported by increasing regulatory requirements for controlled ventilation systems. In addition, demand for air-purifying filter systems is also increasing. Jowat’s comprehensive adhesive portfolio for filter media pleating and frame bonding provides tailor-made products for almost any application in the manufacture of air filters.

Thermoplastic Jowat adhesives for the pleating and frame assembly of particle filters are characterized by a wide range of adhesion and ensure bonding applications with sealing and forming properties with the highest possible process reliability. They facilitate high bond strengths with low application amounts as well as a long service life and superior quality of the filter elements. Jowatherm® 262.25 is a tried-and-true “all-rounder” for the manufacture of HEPA and ULPA filters. This EVA hot melt adhesive supports high-speed manufacturing processes with processing temperatures starting from 125°C due to its short open time and a high green strength facilitating immediate handling.

Jowat also supplies modern PUR hot melt adhesives for activated carbon binding and for the lamination of multilayer filter elements with minimal application amounts. Within that range, Jowat also supplies a monomer-reduced product with hazard-free labeling: Jowatherm‑Reaktant® MR 614.50. The relatively low application temperature of the adhesive, between 100°C and 120°C, facilitates resource-efficient bonding processes. The key benefit of this PUR hot melt adhesive: A very low monomer diisocyanate (MDI) content of less than 0.1 percent and therefore hazard-free labeling. In addition to increased occupational safety, this provides a further advantage starting from August 2023, at the latest. After that date, processors inside the EU will be required by law to complete a mandatory training before they are allowed to process products containing MDI. Products with hazard-free labeling are not subject to that requirement and can save resources.

A team of adhesive experts from Detmold will be present at the FILTECH trade show in Cologne, February 14 through 16, 2023, to personally answer questions in detail about powerful adhesives, optimized bonding processes as well as the service and support provided by Jowat—hall 8, booth B8.
