Begreppet lättviktsskiva (för möbler) kan användas för många materialkombinationer, som alla syftar på produkter med lägre vikt jämfört med konventionella träbaserade substrat som används vid möbeltillverkning (t.ex. massivt trä, spånskivor och MDF), samtidigt som man behåller alla önskade möbelaspekter i fråga om funktion och användning.
Jowat tillhandahåller en portfölj av kraftfulla vit- och smältlim med särskilda lim för tillverkning av lättviktsskivor. Vilket lim som väljs för en produkt beror på materialen (t.ex. tunna spånskivor med kärna av kartong- eller , aluminiumhoneycomb med aluminiumöverdrag eller högtryckslaminat med PU-kärna), limappliceringsmetoden (vanligen roller eller spaltmunstycke) och sist, men inte minst, för vilken användning och exponering den slutliga delen är avsedd. Skivorna kan förseglas genom att substratet utsätts för en vattenavstötande (hydrofobisk) behandling. Detta stärker det träbaserade bärarsubstratets yta, som blir hårdare, och minskar utsläppen av flyktiga organiska föreningar (VOC).
