Jowat has developed a new solvent-based primer for highest demands in edgeband manufacturing and processing, especially with regard to occupational safety and environmental protection. This development addresses the latest as well as the upcoming amendments to the Reach classification of solvents (CMR substances).
The Jowat® Primer 408.48 is free of Toluene, Tetrahydrofuran (THF) and N-Ethylpyrrolidone (NEP), and has been developed particularly for PP and ABS edgebands. Following many decades of experience with edgeband primers, Jowat succeeded in replacing Toluene, THF as well as NEP and at the same time meeting the high requirements of modern furniture manufacturers.
Due to the substitution of Toluene, THF and NEP, the product has to be labelled only with GHS02 & GHS07.
The following H statements are no longer necessary:
¦ 351: Suspected of causing cancer.
¦ 360Df: May damage the unborn child. Suspected of damaging fertility.
In general, primers containing Toluene, NEP and THF can still be sold. However, Jowat® Primer 408.48 provides the opportunity to implement the principle of substitution and therefore to supply safer and more environmentally compatible systems.
Jowat® Primer 408.48 is used for ABS and PP edgebands. Application by gravure or smooth roller.
Jowat® Primer 408.48 provides special benefits for ABS and PP edgebands:
- Improved, smoother application pattern as foundation for god permanent bond strength.
- If processed properly, bites the ABS but does not dissolve.
- Very good adhesion on PP with Corona pretreatment and 3 % Jowat Crosslinker 498.00.
- Chlorine-free – therefore also compliant with IKEA-IOS-MAT-0010, -0054 & 0066.
