Do You Already Know the Second German Production Site in Elsteraue?

Jowat Klebstoffe GmbH in Elsteraue was founded in the year 1992 and is the second manufacturing location in Germany. It was an investment aimed at further improving security and reliability in production. The previously rented building of a former hydrogenation plant and a parcel of land were purchased in 1994 already. In the year 2001, the site was expanded with a warehouse, a building for offices and staff rooms, and a production building for the manufacture of solvent-based adhesives and primers, which can be seen in the photo.

The production plant in Elsteraue founded in 1992 was the second manufacturing location to be established by Jowat in Germany. Elsteraue, a town with a population of about 9,000, lies in the Burgenlandkreis district in southern Saxony-Anhalt and borders Detmold’s twin city Zeitz about 40 km from Leipzig. The location was chosen due to its decisive advantages on the site of an industrial park. Firstly, the accelerating business in Eastern Europe at that time was subject to certain requirements which favored a location in the eastern part of Germany. In addition, the former site of the central German hydrogenation plant provided a multitude of technical and infrastructural benefits.

The building and the parcel of land which had so far been rented were purchased in 1994 already. At the beginning, 11 employees manufactured hot melt adhesives as well as dispersion adhesives and release agents at the plant. A modern office building including staff rooms, a new warehouse and a production facility for the manufacture of solvent-based adhesives and primers were added at the turn of the century. Further investment were also made into machinery and other technical equipment.

Today, adhesives are manufactured in two production halls with a surface area of 37.000 m2, including several storage rooms for non-hazardous as well as for hazardous materials. With an annual production volume of approx. 20,000 tonnes and about 80 employees, Jowat Klebstoffe GmbH in Elsteraue is the second biggest manufacturing location with regard to adhesive output in the global production network of the Jowat Group. The new production facilities built in the last years and the consistent optimization of processes ensure that the continuously growing demand, particularly for hot melt adhesives, primers/adhesion promoters and solvent-based adhesives, can be met in accordance with customer requirements.
