plicators on their existing equipment. Granulated PUR hot melt facilitates an easy introduction to PUR technology. Especially first-time processors of PUR hot melt and small companies that re- quire PUR adhesives for special appli- cations benefit from the economic ad- vantages of the granulate form. Only a nonstick coating of the application unit is required and PUR hot melts can be processed on standard edgebanders with the existing system without the need of any additional investment. A special premelter is not required. The development goes on – with renewable raw materials Even as reactive PUR hot melt adhe- sives have been established as high- end products in edgebanding, they are still being developed further. For instance, new formulations are cur- rently being developed to continuously increase the content of renewable raw materials in the adhesive. Jowat is ac- tively researching for methods to further optimise these adhesives based on raw materials from agricultural or forestry production (e.g. vegetable oils, waste wood). Among other examples, a newly developed PUR hot melt mainly based on renewable raw materials has slightly longer setting times but provides con- siderably better adhesion properties than most conventional adhesives, making it suitable to be used e.g. on metallic substrates. The development of new, more power- ful products does not only save raw ma- terials and support sustainability, it also can prevent potential bottlenecks in the supply of raw materials in the manufac- ture of adhesives. Together with its partners, Jowat will continue to expand the profile of the highly competent manufacturer of ad- hesives for edgebanding – proactively, innovative, highly versatile and always open for sustainable alternatives. Our objective is to provide ideal edgeband- ing solutions for all requirements. 11 Author Ingo Horsthemke Product Manager Wood | Furniture | Construction Industry
