Moderna sammansatta element eller sandwichkonstruktioner har blivit möjliga tack vare moderna högpresterande limmer.

Idag är sandwichkonstruktioner med stora ytor oumbärlig inom många industriella sektorer. De används för specialfordon, inredning i fartyg, som byggelement, men även inom möbeltillverkning och många andra tillämpningar. Materialblandningen som följer av de särskilda krav som ställs på det sandwichkonstruktioner kräver speciella lim, som ofta är skräddarsydda för processen, särskilt med avseende på de aktuella materialens motståndskraft mot värme, fukt eller kyla, eller med avseende på deras brandegenskaper.
